9th & 10th Muharram ul Haram Ashura Notification issued

Introduction

As the Islamic lunar month of Muharram dawns upon the Muslim world, preparations are underway for the commemoration of the significant events of this sacred month. Among these events, the 9th and 10th of Muharram, also known as Ashura, hold profound religious and historical significance for Muslims. In light of these upcoming days, authorities have issued a notification to facilitate the observance of Ashura with due reverence and respect.

Understanding the Significance of Ashura

Ashura is observed on the 9th and 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. It holds dual significance for Muslims across the globe. On one hand, it marks the end of the mourning period for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. This tragic event holds a central place in Islamic history and stands as a symbol of resistance against oppression and injustice.

On the other hand, Ashura also holds importance for its connection to Jewish history. It is believed that on this day, Prophet Moses (Musa) and the Israelites were saved from the tyranny of the Egyptian Pharaoh as they crossed the Red Sea, and the sea miraculously parted for them.
